A. D. Eames was an early member of the City Council, elected in the first council and serving in 1854 and 1855 and then again in 1862. Eames was a member of the Oakland Guard.4 Mr. Eames was the proprietor of the Oakland House hotel, constructed in 1851, site of Oakland's first post office.5
A. D. Eames is the person who proposed the controversial ordinance for creating and maintaining a wharf in Oakland in 1854.1 It appears that this was partly made complicated by the fact that the (corrupt) Mayor, Horace Carpentier, had a large financial stake in the wharf area.2 See "Waterfront Action"3 to attempt to make sense of what happened.
