What a typical event looks like

About:

Relay for Life is an event done around the country to help fight cancer but also recognize survivors and lost loved ones. With the help of the American Cancer Society, Relay raises millions of dollars a year for cancer research. To start, people form teams for fundraising. Each team raises money until the event day. At the event, at least one member of each team walks around a track all night long to symbolize that cancer never sleeps.

This years event will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 starting at 6 p.m. at Burlington Recreation and Parks (located at 1333 Overbrook Road).

Each event has a luminary ceremony in which every participant takes a silent lap. The luminary ceremony prior to the event, also engages with Allied Church to collect canned foods. Around 2000 cans are needed this year for the 2014 Luminary

It is a great way to bring communities together for a common cause. Alamance County has its own local event each year. Teams have already raised over 66,000 dollars.
