Douglas Benit, who was an assistant superintendent in Ecorse until 2003, has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison for persuading the district to award contracts to his company. Benit concealed his affiliation with Coral Technology while getting more than $2 million in school contracts. Benit, who later was superintendent of Willow Run Schools, was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Detroit, four months after pleading guilty to mail fraud and bank fraud. A message seeking comment was left with his lawyer.
