Roy T. Brophy was a recipient of the UC Davis Medal in 2002. Among his accomplishments, Brophy served on several educational governing boards throughout the years including those that oversaw the San Juan Unified School District, California Community Colleges, and the California State University System. Roy Brophy also served as a member of the California Postsecondary Education Commission. He was appointed to the UC Board of Regents by Governor George Deukmejian in 1986. As a regent, Brophy has weighed in on some controversial issues of recent decades such as whether or not to continue affirmative action and how the UC system should react to economic crises.
