Lektrawyne was a band formed in 1991 in Grand Rapids MI by ex Alter Ego guitarist Sean Fodor and featured bassist Earl Toliver, drummer Scott Veenstra and vocalist Stephanie Engman (Scruggs). (drummer Daryl Patrick replaced Scott Veenstra after a month) The band was the cumulation of the Tuesday night house band at Martini’s Lounge in Eastown in 1991  (now Billy’s Lounge).

After being the house band for about a year Sean took the band into Sound Field Studios in 1992 and recorded their debut album “The Initial Spark” for Vette Records (owned by Kevin Donlon). Drummer Daryl Patrick was replaced by Jason Babcock for these recordings.

The first single “Bring It Down” was a hard rocking song with an infectious groove about “bringing down the walls of bigotry and hate”.

The second single “Greene” was a blend of Hip Hop, Rap and Rock. The song addressed the corrupt culture of money and greed in politics.

“Greene” caught the attention of promoter Rastaman Nane the founder and promoter of the Reggae Sunsplash and asked the band to perform at the 1992 Reggae Sunsplash that featured Reggae legend Pato Banton, The festival was held at Val Du Lakes in Silver Lake Michigan. The festival drew 20,000 people.

The band disbanded in 1994

Lektrawyne reformed in April of 2023 and played a show Billy’s Lounge in Eastown Grand Rapids MI. Original singer Stephanie Engman was replaced by Serita “Black Rose” Crowley and Space Brothers drummer Pete Bass sat in on drums.
