Trudy Ulrich came to Saranac Lake for the cure from New York City in August of 1944. She was listed as a housewife on her Report of a Case of Tuberculosis, and stayed at 48 Franklin Ave. (the Alta Vista Lodge). Dr. Leetch was her physician and she stayed for about eight months.

Letter to the Editor, New York Times, undated

In 1944, my mother contracted tuberculosis. My father, an internist in Manhattan, sent her to a sanatorium in Saranac Lake, N.Y., where she stayed about eight months. After returning home, she appeared to be cured. But a few years later, in 1949, she had a flare-up of the disease. My father consulted Rudolph Nissen, a pioneer at the time in the surgical removal of the lung. He advised my parents that the only permanent cure would be removal of that portion of the lung that again showed signs of the disease. The surgery was successful, and although my mother remained in frail health for the rest of her life, there was no recurrence of the disease.
