A community built-foundation, the goal of the East Tennessee Foundation is to make the region a better place to live today and in the future. The ETF is a collection of individual charities, foundations, non-profits, businesses and individuals that coordinates efforts for community improving to support the mission of "Thoughtful Giving for Stronger Communities, Better Lives".

History of Organization: The East Tennessee Foundation was created by in 1986 the people of East Tennessee to join and coordinate the efforts of donors and serve as a permanent source of funding for the region for charitable purposes in 26 counties of the state. Governed by a 41-member Board and including 400 philanthropic funds and 9 supporting organizations, ETF has granted $214 million to support non-profit organizations to  community improvement initiatives.  

Programs and Projects: The East Tennessee Foundation offers grants and loans for activities such as affordable housing, economic development, and youth leadership among many others. Student scholarships are also available and serve as an investment in the region's future. ETF also manages unrestricted and operating funds, field of interest funds, manages affiliate funds, designated funds, agency endowments, and donor advised funding opportunities.
