Description Of Work:
Removed old, deteriorated wooden deck, replaced/reset cement footings as needed, built a new deck with treated redwood posts and stringers and synthetic wood planks for the decking and benches.
We received 3 quotes, and Carpenter was the only one willing to include the services of a licensed plumber to lift a water spigot above the deck.
He also made excellent recommendations on the benches we had installed - we did not need railings, as our deck is close to the ground; steps were also not needed, and lattice on the base of the deck would potentially trap small animals that our cats could not then chase away!
Other quotes were just fine, Carpenter was just better in his approach, manner and recommendations.
Don Carpenter and his crew were on time, professional, friendly. They finished about 1/2 day early, too!
We would use him again, and definitely will recommend him.
Additional Comments:
We got quotes from 3 sources over the course of about 3 weeks - the prices were not that different across contractors.
Carpenter was the first to respond and the most flexible.
He proposed a very acceptable project window which met our schedule.
Everyone showed up on time each day; they kept the noise to a reasonable minimum, especially when a bit of concrete had to be jackhammered out of the way.
Special accommodations were made so that we can unscrew a part of the decking if plumbing access is needed for the faucet we had moved above the level of the deck.
We felt very comfortable leaving the crew to get their work done - they obviously knew what they were doing and were able to professionally deal with the usual unexpected moments without any problems.
I cannot think of anything they could have done better or differently to make this a perfect experience.

Richard has not done a deck for us, but I have heard him talk about deck projects he had for other clients.

I used Bruce Bauer and they were GREAT! They were willing to wiggle a little bit on the price but I loved the local aspect of them more that say Lowes or HD. I also went with the artificial decking. Couldn't be more happy with it. I built it my self, as this was just a small project out back. But I would definitely check out Bruce Bauer, and ask for Dave. He was a great help. Even came over one day to check it out and offer suggestions as it was my first big/small project.
