Temescal Mural Project - Oakland

The Temescal Mural Project is a series of panels on the side of the PG&E building at Shattuck and 51st/52nd Street in Temescal. The murals were painted by students in classes taught by Ray Patlan at California College of the Arts.

Five more of the murals were installed on the side of Kelly-Moore paints at 42nd and Telegraph.

The first two murals were painted by Camille Hoffman and Vanesa Ayala and were unveiled in 2009. Hoffman's mural pays homage to William Walkers' "All of Mankind" mural on a church in a housing project in Chicago. The neighborhood and the church are at risk of being demolished due to gentrification, and the Temescal murals are meant to attract attention to the diversity in the area.

Another mural is painted by Danielle Gray, Stephanie Laursen and Bianca Crampton and represents backyard chickens.
