Uber is a San Francisco-based VC-funded taxi company. In September 2015, Uber announced that they will be leasing a "large swath" of the former Sears building. Uber has run afoul of regulators in many of the places it operates, including the state of California. State regulators have taken issue with Uber's presence in airports and worker mis-classification lawsuits. Uber drivers operate as independent so-called 1099 contractors, but this issue is working its way through the courts.
Uber was a sponsor of the 2014 Urban Shield and had a vendor booth.
