The Wakefield Building is a large, brick building at 426 - 17th Street. It was completed in 1924, and was owned by W.H. Wakefield who was a doctor and had an office in the building. The architect was Charles W. McCall of the McCall and Davis firm. 2 It was constructed by Charles W. Heyer. 3

Edwin R. Leach and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Wolfenden were part owners. 5

It was designed in a T shape with the stairs and elevator at the center to ensure that all offices would have natural light. 2

NB: In 1922, Wakefield had a smaller building at 1616 Franklin constructed that was referred to as the Wakefield Building at the time of construction. 4
