Other than the sea life and seagulls that inhabit Ediz Hook, there are a large number of stray and feral community cats that roam the sand spit. No one owns any of the cats on the hook, but there are many tourists and volunteers that do leave food out for them to eat. However, the hook’s cat population seems to be ever-growing with many of the cats not spayed or neutered. Some of the local humane societies of the area are committed to begin performing TNR (trap-neuter-return/release) surgeries on the cats to help remedy this.
