Photo by Julie JarvisHarris Lake Country Park is located in New Hill, NC (southwestern Wake County) and maintained by Wake Country. The 680-acre park is situated on a peninsula near the Shearon Harris Reservoir convenient to Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Holly Springs and Fuquay-Varina and provides a variety of fun outdoor activities including:
- primitive camping
- hiking trails
- mountain biking trails (beginning, intermediate and advanced loops)
- disc golf
- playgrounds
- kayaking and canoeing
- fishing
- playgrounds
- picnic shelters
- volleyball
- environmental education
There are bathroom facilities on site with running water. The Peninsula Trail is a hiking trail 5 miles in length with nice views of the lake and the Shearon Harris Nuclear Plant cooling tower. Peninsula is an unpaved and flat trail.
The park is open year around, seven days a week 8:00AM to Sunset, except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
