The Avid Reader at the Tower is an independent bookstore. The Sacramento store was previously known as just The Avid Reader, located at 1003 L Street and is owned solely by Stan Forbes.
The bookstore is located at the historic site of the first Tower Books, which was part of the same company as Tower Records. Both stores took their name from the Tower Theater. So the Avid Reader at Tower incorporates "Tower" as part of the name, in keeping with the history of the location and the proximity to the landmark Tower Theater and Tower Cafe.
