The Tower Bridge carries Capitol Mall across the Sacramento River. Incidentally, it's the inspiration for Sacwiki's logo. It is one of the many bridges in Sacramento.

  • The Tower Bridge was officially dedicated on Sunday December 15, 1935 by Governor Frank Merriam.
  • It was the first vertical lift bridge in the California Highway system. It replaced the M Street steel swing span.
  • The Tower Bridge was originally painted silver.
  • In June 1976 it was painted a yellow-ochre to match the gold leafed capitol dome.
  • It was repainted a shade of gold in 2002 after an on-line vote.
  • It's fun to walk over the Tower Bridge after Rivercats games at Raley Field, though it can get kind of windy.
  • From November-December 2007, the Bridge was closed in order to widen the walkways on the edges.
