Baldwin Avenue – 

Boissevaine Avenue – Named for Adolph Boissevaine, who was a name of Amsterdam, Holland.  He founded a banking firm in Holland and helped finance the development of Ghent neighborhood.1

 

Botetourt Street – Named for Lord Botetourt.  One local nickname or pronunciation for the street was “Bottom Top Street” from the recollections of Mrs. Louisa V. Kyle.1

Brambleton – Named for George Bramble who owned a farm in the Brambleton section. 

 

Brambleton Avenue – Named for George Bramble who owned a farm in the Brambleton section.

Brandon Avenue – Named for Brandon Plantation, a colonial home of Martin and Harrison families in Prince George County, Virginia.1

City Hall Avenue – Named for Norfolk’s City Hall that sits at corner of City Hall Avenue and Bank Street.  In 19xx it was turned into the General Douglas MacArthur Memorial Museum.

Claremont Avenue – Named for Claremont Plantation or Claremont Manor, a colonial home of Allen family in Surry County, Virginia.2

 

Colley Avenue – Named for the Colley family that owned the land where the avenue is located.  Mr. J. P. Andre Mottu, Adolph Boissevaine’s Norfolk agent, bought the Colley farm to redevelop it into a neighborhood.2

Market Street – Formerly called Wolfe Street.  It was later renamed due to the City Market building being located on the street.

Matoaka Street  Street in West Ghent neighborhood.  Named for the daughter of Chief Powhatan.  She was also known as Amonute or  Pocahontas.   

Monticello Avenue – Named to honor Thomas Jefferson and used the name of his home in Albemarle County, VA.

Moran Avenue – Named for Jasper Moran who was the nephew of William Plume.

Munson Park – Named for Charles E. Munson, vice president of Old Dominion Place Realty when the company was formed in June 1899.   His company developed the neighborhood while he still lived in Columbus, Ohio.

Munson Street - Named for Charles E. Munson, vice president of Old Dominion Place Realty when the company was formed in June 1899.   His company developed the neighborhood, Old Dominion Place.  The street got its’ name in 1904.
