Jawed Akhter a highly educated professional with double masters degree in International Relations and Culture is a Public Speaker, Human Rights Advocate and Community Activist. Jawed also worked as a Community Development Officer with World Bank assisted program in 3rd world countries on various projects of community diversity and development.

Jawed Akhter has been working in Settlement Services Sector as a Settlement Councillor since 1999 with a multiservice not for profit organization CICS empowering new Canadians to settle and integrate into Canadian society successfully. Jawed applies inclusive, interfaith, and intersectional approach towards life and strives hard to make this world a place of peace and harmony under the guidelines of Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom. Jawed's vision for the Canadian society extends beyond the ethno cultural, racial,sexual, and religious boundries.Jawed believes Diversity leads to strength.

Jawed plays a very active role in the Canadian society by serving on various boards, and sitting on various committees in different capacities including South Asian Left DEmocratic Alliance,Toronto Residents in Partnership, Ethno Cultural Committee of TDSB, CAMH Advisory Committee, EGALE Canada, Harmony Movement, BBN Now CAPC, and Ex-Member of Canadian Institute of International Affairs.

Currently Jawed sits on Advisory Committee of Fairview Community Health Centre North York, Community Implementation Team of North York. Jawed was also appointed by Public Appointments Secretariat,Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care on the board of CCAC,North York.

He is a guest panelist and speaker on South Asian Canadian radio programs speaking on issues that affect all levels of government. Jawed speaks four different languages and is committed to fight for equality, fairness, and justice for all Canadians. His work in Human Rights and Community Development has taken him to Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Srilanka.

In addiation to that Jawed was also nominated for Skills for Change Pioneer award in year 2004 and Order of Ontario in year 2006.
