HODGSON, PTE, HERBERT J. Reg, # 657927
Herbert Joseph Hodgson was born April 26, 1895 in Chapman Township, the son of Thomas Hodgson and Harriett Bird.
The family remained in Chapman at the time of the 1901 and 1911 censuses. In the later census, 16 year old Herbert was listed as a farmer.
In his Attestation papers signed April 29, 1916 in Sundridge, Herbert identified his present address as Pearcely, Chapman Twp.
After the war, Herbert returned to the family farm, but on November 5, 1924 he married Grace Estella May Wilson in Hastings, Ontario. They had two children. Herbert died October 5, 1974 and is buried in Chapman.
In his Discharge Certificate signed Nov. 8, 1918, Herbert is identified as joined the 162nd on enlistment and having served in England and France.
The reason given for his discharge was that he was medically unfit.
In the Discharge Certificate it was identified that he had a scar on his right thigh from a gunshot wound received August 3, 1917.

In the medical report, it was identified that Herbert received a shrapnel wound while working on a Railway near Levy.
He was identified as having served with the 162nd, the 36th Battalion, the 3rd Reserve Battalion and the 123rd Battalion.
He was with the 123rd at the time he received the gun shot wound.
