RAAFLAUB, PTE. ALPHONSE REINHOLD Reg. # 2250856

Alphonse Raaflaub was born January 30, 1898 in Magnetawan, the son of Alphonse Raaflaub and Phillipine Louisa Catharina Schade.

At the time of the 1901 census, the family was identified as living in Ryerson Township.

It is not clear where the family lived at the time oof the 1911 census, but when Reinhold Alphonse Raaflaub signed up he identified that he had been born in Magnetawan and that his next of kin was his father Alphonse Raaflaub of Magnetawan.

Alphonse identified his job as a saw-filer working at Copper Cliff, Ontario.

Alfred enlisted May 21, 1917. 

At the time of the 1921 census, Alphonse was identified as living with his parents on Sparks Street, Magnetawan.

Reinhold married Winnifred ‘Winnie’ Bernice Rawn in 1925. They had five children.

In his Discharge Certificate, Reinold is identified as having joined the Forestry Corps May 21, 1917 and to have served in England and France.

He was discharged March 22, 1919.

Reinhold is identified as having arrived in England on July 5 1917.

In August he was assigned to the 72 Coy, Canadian Forestry Corps in France.

He appears to have remained with the Corps for the duration.
