SMITH, PTE. HAROLD Reg. # 3106789

Harold Smith was born January 30, 1894 in Magnetawan, the son of Albert and Dora (Broderick) Smith.

At the time of the 1901 census the family lived in Croft Twp. At the time of the 1911 census, the family was listed specifically at Lot 7, Concession 1 of Croft.

Harold married Charlotte Ellen ‘Lottie’ Wager on April 3, 1920

At the time of the 1921 census, Harold and Lottie and 4 month old Marjorie lived with Harold’s parents and siblings in Croft Twp. Lottie and Harold had 6 children. 

In his Discharge Certificate, Harold is identified as enlisting in the 2nd C.O.R.  on February 4, 1918 at Hamilton. He is identified as having served with the 4th Canadian Machine Gun Corps in England and France.

He was discharged June 16, 1919.

Harold arrived in England on March 4, 1918 on the S.S. Melita.

In August/ September he was assigned to the Machine Gun Pool and the 4th Battalion,  Machine Gun Corps.

He returned to Canada June 1919
