WILSON, PTE. H. Reg. #135078

Horace Wilson was born November 13, 1890 in Magnetawan, the son of Joseph Wilson and Helena Weeks.

At the time of the 1891 census, the family was identified as living in the Chapman and Croft, Census Sub-District. At the time of the 1901 census, the family was identified as more specifically living in Chapman. At the time of the 1911 census, the family was identified as living on 141 Baldwin Street, Toronto. Horace was identified as a clerk.

Horace married Hilda Mitchell. They had a son Robert born in 1920 (died 1921).

In October of 1934, Horace was identified as living on 121 Gillard Ave. Toronto.

Horace died in 1951 in Burks Falls and is buried in Chapman Cemetery.

Horace enlisted July 21, 1915 in Toronto.

In his Proceedings for Discharge, Horace was identified as being in the 1st Battallion C.A.R.C. (Canadian Army Recovery Company) at the time of discharge.

He was discharged January 19, 1920

Horace arrived in England on November 4, 1915 with the O.C.36 and was confirmed in the role of Acting Corporal.

On March 24, 1916 he was transferred to the 1st Battalion. (This was in France as noted in the form below.)

In May he sprained his ankle in a training exercise that briefly side-lined him.

In June he rejoined his Unit but in July was transferred to the C.C.A.C. (Canadian Casualty Assembly Centre - centre where wounded were assessed for either further treatment or return to duty) as the result of a Gun Shot Wound to his left hand.

The wound to his left hand rendered it ‘partially useless’.

Horance appears to have spent the remainder of the war and through 1919 in administrative roles e.g. C.A.P.C. (Canadian Army Pay Corps).
