Overview

The Trolly Stop has been a staple in the Wrightsville Beach community since 1976, serving hot dogs to the coastal North Carolina community. Building its brand on its mom and pop charm, fresh ingredients, and variety of hot dogs, the Trolly Stop is the go-to place in one of America's best beach towns. With the original Wrightsville Beach location just a few feet away from the ocean, this small hot dog shop has become a popular spot for a quick lunch on a sunny summer day.

History

B.C Hedgepath opened the first Trolly Stop in 1976. The original store is called Station 1, since it was located at the first stop on the Wrightsville Beach trolley line.

After the ownership changed hands a few times, Rick and JoDeane Coombs bought the Trolly Stop in 1996. They opened Trolly Stops in Carolina beach in 1998, Front Street in Historic Downtown Wilmington in 1999 and Southport in 2000. A Trolly Stop opened in Chapel Hill in 2015.

Rick Combs remained the owner of the Trolly Stop store after JoDeane passed,  but has since franchised the business.

Menu

The menu includes a variety of five types of hot dogs, with the most popular being the Trolly Dog. You can also substitute for vegetarian or fat free options. The Trolly Stop has specific styles home to the Wrightsville Beach location, which include the Surfer and Wrightsville hot dogs. The Wrightsville hot dog is topped with deli mustard, secret sauce, onions and diced tomatoes. The secret sauce is similar to a thousand islands dressing. If you are not in the mood for a hot dog, you can still get drinks, sides, cookies and nachos with cheese.
