　大通高校は、札幌市立の定時制の学校を統廃合して作られた定時制の高校です。その名の通り、都心の大通小学校の跡地にあり、隣は北海道大学農学部の植物園、ホテルロイトン札幌と札幌高等裁判所を挟んで大通公園まで200メートルです。従来の夜間定時を夜間部と呼び、午前部、午後部を加え、一つの高校が三部で運営され、1,100人の生徒が学んでいます。単位制で、大学生のように生徒達は授業を選びます。受験の方法は学力だけでなく、自己推薦など、中学迄の成績や出席日数を問わない複数の受験方法が特徴的です。

　学校によくある上履きがなく、土足のままホテルのロビーに入るかのように入校出来るので、外部の人間もスリッパに履き替えることはりません。これが、意外と大切で、訪問にストレスがなく、壁のない職員室でお会いしたい先生、校内で生徒に出合うことが簡単にできる作りになっています。
　表現やプレゼンテーションに関する授業や自主活動があり、メディア局はWebとラジオ番組を持っています。

Sapporo Odori high school is a part-time high school built out of the integration of former Sapporo municipal part-time high schools. As the name of “Sapporo Odori” shows, the school building is located in the center of Sapporo, where Odori Elementary School used to be. There is Botanical Garden of Hokkaido University’s Agricultural Faculty next to the school, which is located 200 meters north of Odori Park. Between the park and the school building, there are Royton Hotel and the Sapporo High Court.

Odori High School has three sessions －the morning, the afternoon and the evening . More than 1000 students are studying there. A credit-based system is adopted and students can choose classes according to their interests or future plans like ordinary college students do.

There are four entrance examinations in a year. As for the system, there are two types. One is self –recommendation system considering academic records of junior high school and the other is the evaluation one by the results of entrance exams without considering academic records of junior high.

You can come into the school building without changing your shoes like you visit some hotels. This system is surprisingly important. You are not stressed out when you come and visit the school. It can be easier to meet some teachers in the faculty space, which doesn’t have doors, open to the hallway and see students’ activities.

In Odori High School, the skills of “expression” and “presentation” are thought much of in the school curriculum of Odori High School and volunteer activities are recommended positively. The club activity called Media Kyoku (Station) has its own home page and radio program.
